Magic Island Designs was initially established on the fabulous island of Maui in the early 1970's as Magic Island Shirts LTD. After many years and waves later, we re-opened our doors in late 2009!!!

At the dawn of the 1970's, our love of the ocean took us on an adventure to Maui. This first Maui excursion, originally planned as a weekend trip from Honolulu, turned into a three month exploration of the Valley Isle. Soon thereafter, Maui became home.

During our early years on Maui, we were continuously intrigued by the beautiful artwork that local artists were creating around the island. As any visitor to Maui knows, the idyllic landscapes on the Valley Isle create a backdrop like none other on Earth. This, combined with the freedom that the new decade presented, helped to stimulate the creation of some of the most stunning surf-themed art in history.

After securing business space at the old theater in Paia town, business got off the ground. Artwork was created by local artists including Richard Fields and the art was specifically created in accordance to the lifestyle that was lived on Maui in the 1970’s.

Since that great time in the 1970's the time and location have changed, but the original spirit of stoke, joy and the Magic Island state of mind still remain in our gear. It is now our pleasure to be able to once again offer these wonderful examples of our lifestyle and its great vibrations. Please take a moment to browse our t-shirt and art collections.
